Hi Andrea, I really love this app - I'm using it with a Galaxy Note 3. My question is, in RTTY mode, the KX3 has a default 4-second "idle" after "sending". Most contact stations start transmitting long before this is over, and so there is a need to terminate the idle period at the end of the "send" function.
In the KX3 manual (pg 18, lower left), this is briefly mentioned in the context of sending CW-to-RTTY and including a CW "IM" prosign. This doesn't seem to work in direct-entry terminal mode. I noticed in the KX3 Utility, there is an Option in Terminal mode that allows one to set the "idle timeout". This feature is needed in Companion to make it really useful for RTTY work. Is there already a solution that I am just missing? I've searched the internet in vain, and there doesn't seem to be a KX3 menu item addressing this.
Thanks and 73, keep up the good work!

Hi Scotty, I'll try to integrate an option for that. In the meanwhile you can try to use the XMIT (long press the SEND button) mode and to shorten the idle single press the XMIT button. Thanks for suggesting 73, Andrea IU4APC

Andrea, OK I tried that and it is a partial workaround. It still is far from ideal, as one cannot use the "SEND" mode to prep the next message. The problem occurs in both PSK31 and RTTY. Hopefully you can implement a command to adjust the timeout so that this can really be used in a rapid exchange setting.
I plan on using this configuration for practice for part of Field Day as well.

Hi, Since instant gratification is not soon enough.....
I programmed in the macro command |RX;| to one of my front panel programmable buttons. I did this to be able to kill the TX string when running longish CQs using QSK in CW. For me, it is quicker than the long XMIT press in the companion. I haven't tried it but I think it would work OK for other modes too...

The issue is solved with v8 that has been just released. Test it and tell me if now is ok for you 72/73, Andrea IU4APC

Hi Andrea, I installed just in time for Field Day. After setting it all up, I made 2 PSK contacts and then the App crashed in the middle of a QSO. When I tried to close it, I kept getting exception errors. When I finally got it re-started, all of my macros were gone.
I'm using a Galaxy Note 3, and a friend who was also at Field Day with a KX3 tried the same thing on a tablet had similar issues (crashed several times and lost settings/macros). We stopped using KX3 Companion and finished out the rest of Field Day using our netbooks instead.
Hopefully you can do some debugging and get the app stable. Past versions have crashed or frozen when other devices (such as a bluetooth keyboard) are attached to the Android device, so I have had to be careful before. This version will need some work before we can use it. I'm still hoping you can get the bugs worked out, because this is a great idea and really a good application for the KX3 and mountain top work.

Sorry to hear that. To help me replicating and debugging the problem, were you using it in SEND mode or XMIT mode? Thanks.

I was trying both, honestly I don't remember which it was when it crashed in the QSO. Pretty sure it was SEND.

Were you and your friend using the same KX3? Were you both using the same OTG USB adapter? Does the KX3 have an amplifier attached? Do you have something like AUTOINF or PA active in the KX3 configuration? Thanks!

Different KX3's, different OTG cables, no amplifiers. I need to look on the configs you listed.

OK Let me know about configs because I've found that some options may crash the app and I'm trying to find them all out to fix the code. Thanks again!
