Hi everyone, Gary K6YOA send me an email with an interesting and useful information. It seems that not all the Galaxy Tab and Note support USB “hosting” needed to attach the KX3 to your Android device via OTG Usb cable. For example. the Samsung Tab3 7 inch, Model SM-T2100R does not support USB hosting even though it has a USB port. The following Samsung Tab 3 devices do however support USB hosting and should thus be compatible with your program: - Galaxy Note 8.0 White (GT-N5110ZWYXAR)
- Galaxy Note 8.0 Brown – Black (GT-N5110NKYXAR)
- Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 White (SM-T3100ZWYXAR)
- Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 Gold-Brown (SM-T3100GNYXAR)
- Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 White (GT-P5210ZWYXAR)
- Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 Gold-Brown (GT-P5210GNYXAR)
I hope that this info is useful for you. Thanks again to Gary K6YOA. 72/73, Andrea IU4APC

Andrea -
Am using Galaxy Tab 3, 8" with my KX3. It works FB in receive mode but crashes in TX. Sometimes it crashes when I first hit the send button, other times it crashes at the end of a transmission. I just uninstalled it and re-installed, but no change. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Cam N6GA

Try rising the polling time to 200/300ms and eventually reduce the serial baudrate to 19200/9600. Let me know.

Can someone help I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and would like to connect my KX3. In the free version everything works ufb, unfortunately after I bought the full version, the KX3 Companion Full version hangs up and does not react, I have to close the program and then I can start the program again but unfortunately no function. The KX3 is addressed with a Piglet via W-Lan 4800 Bd. Can someone give me a hint what I can try or where the difference between the free version to the full version, except for the price ... Thank you in advance, 73 es 55 Chris de OE6CUD

Hi Chris,
did you try increasing the polling time?
Try using 200/300 ms and eventually increase them if needed.
Let me know.

Hi Andrea! Sorry for the late reply. I was in September 3 weeks in 9A and have my KX3 tested with the app and is running. My change was the polling time on 300. Thanks for Info. Thank you so developing a great app for your quick response and congratulations for your work. Since one it was developed by a radio amateur for radio amateurs looks. Please keep it up. Sorry by my not good English.

Ciao Chris,
thanks to you.
I'm happy to hear that you solved as well.
Unfortunately my day job is keeping me away from other development but I really hope to get back to do some coding for ham radio later this month.

I notice the same problem like Chris. For my Galaxy 3 everything works fine for the free version, but paid still hanging. I must bought try again with suggested 200/300 ms pooling time.

Yes, uninstall and reinstall and rise the polling time to 200/300 ms and eventually lower the serial baudrate to 19200/9600 (on both the app and the KX3). Default settings are made for very fast devices. Next update will have more reasonable default settings 72/73, Andrea IU4APC

Ciao Andrea, first at all congratulation for your FB job.
I'm absolutely new to the KX3; I own it since a few days. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.1 with audio splitter cable and OTG cable. Communication between the tablet and the KX3 is ok but I can't go on PSK31.
The KX3 switches to TX but no audio is transmitted. What went wrong ? How do I have to setup the radio ?
I'm looking forward to receive some hint ...
Thanks and regards Luca

Ciao Luca, thanks for the compliments.
The PSK31 (as well as CW and RTTY) with the KX3 is not done using the audio channels but the serial one. The audio is only needed to have the audio spectrum/waterfall. But to encode/decode CW/PSK31/RTTY you only need the USB Serial to be attached to your smartphone/tablet.
Said that, it's fundamental that you set the mode to PSK31 if you want to send/receive PSK31. Then make sure that you have TEXT decoding enabled in the KX3. You can do that by pressing the TEXT button. You should see a "T" in the KX3 display. This allows the decoded text to be shown in the KX3 Companion RX display as well.
Transmission is not made via audio but via serial as well. The app tells the KX3 what to send, and the KX3 sends the message using the PSK31 encoding features.
I hope this clears things out. If you keep having problems feel free to contact me directly via email: iu4apc@yahoo.com

Hi Andrea, I play around with your app for a while, but I'm still not able to use the swr function. I tried it with my Samsung Galaxy Pro 8.4 and with my portable phone Samsung Galaxy S2. On both devices the same behaviour. When the frequency passes the center, the app crashes. Run button remains dimmed. Tried several combinations of polling time and baudrates. No success. Any suggestions? 73, Herb

Hi Herb, unfortunately is seems that the SWR Meter is not stable enough on some devices. I'm recoding it from scratch for next version so that it should work well on all devices. The SWR Meter function uses a sort of hack/trick in the KX3 programming to work and it's a little bit tricky to make it work 72/73 Andrea IU4APC
