Hi everyone, I just uploaded a new update of the KX3 Companion up with the experimental support for the KX3 Remote operation. Actually it is experimental but it already works well on the remote control side. What’s missing is the Audio part but as you know I’m already working on it, probably by the support of the SIP protocol. I crated a dedicated page with all the information needed: kx3companion.com/kx3remote72/73, Andrea IU4APC

Hi Andrea,
I loaded the update on my Nexus 7 (2013) tablet. Starting the app results in an error: outOfBoundsException: Invalid index 16, size is 16. Continue?
When selecting 'Yes' the same error dialog pps up.
Selecting 'Yes' again keeps the app open, but when selecting the 'settings' button the app crashes.

Ciao Adam, simply uninstall and reinstall the app. It happens with updates 73, Andrea IU4APC

Ah yes, re-intsalling did the trick. I am able to connect now, but after the app displays the 'Connected to Piglet/Pigremote text, the app freezes.
The only way to get out is to kill off the app. The console on the PC that is running the host software recognizes the disconnect with a 'TCP connection closed' message, so we know that there was at least some form of connection.
My setup: Windows 7 Nexus 7 (2013) Tablet

Ciao Adam, I've been able to replicate the problem. I'll try to find a solution to that, probably something missing in the command line I'm also trying to find other solutions that I can "trust" more... on Windows. On Linux (Raspberry Pi) everything works well and is stable I'll keep you updated so you can test it. 73, Andrea IU4APC

FOUND! Using Socat, naturally! The command to send is: socat /dev/ttyS7,raw,echo=0,crnl TCP-LISTEN:7777This is in case your serial USB is mapped on COM8 (/dev/ttyS7). In case of a different number set the /dev/ttySN with N equal to your COM port -1. You can download Socat for Windows binaries here: blog.gentilkiwi.com/programmes/socat#englishversionI tested it with version 2.0.0-b5 and it works! Later I'll update the dedicated page on the blog. 73, Andrea IU4APC

Roger that Andrea. I looked at setting some alternate options on the command line, but didn't have any thing work with that either.
Here and ready to test anything whenever you've got something.

The Socat solution works... just tested it on Window 8 64b. And if it works here, works on every Windows version The best thing is that the socat solution should work on every platform at this point and that's a good thing. Let me know how it goes when you test it. 73, Andrea IU4APC

It Worked!
The remote connection with socat is up and running. I will poke around and report back anything if needed.
Thanks Andrea.

Trying to open kx3 companion and connecting to radio gives "error connecting to USB port" . This is on my Razor Maxx. The Galaxy S5 seems to work fine. Same cable and adapter for both phones.

Thanks for reporting, but I'm getting crazy with all those different phones and tablets Not all of them support USB hosting. Read here for example: kx3companion.com/2014/07/08/galaxy-tab-and-note/I'll investigate to see if the Razor Maxx supports it or not. 73, Andrea IU4APC
